The University offers a highly ranked master’s program in sustainable development and hosts research centers dedicated to environmental and sustainability challenges. Through interdisciplinary research, academic programs and community partnerships, AUC contributes to addressing pressing regional and global issues such as climate change, resource management and sustainable development.
The University’s Climate Change Initiative brings together faculty, researchers and students to advance climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, supporting Egypt and the wider region in responding to climate challenges.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is deeply embedded in AUC’s mission, operations and academic programs. The University integrates sustainability into teaching, research, campus operations and community engagement, fostering an environmentally conscious community that promotes responsible resource management and sustainable development.
AUC is the first university in the region to measure its carbon footprint and has made substantial progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through energy-efficient technologies, waste reduction initiatives and sustainable water management practices, including the reuse of treated wastewater for campus irrigation. The University has set an ambitious goal of achieving nearly net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
AUC’s sustainability initiatives have been recognized globally, including being featured in the United Nations Environment Programme Greening Universities Toolkit as a leading example of a low-carbon and environmentally responsible campus.
